Student Voice Challenge

Calling All BCE Students!

Student Voice Consultants across BCE schools have come together to launch the first-ever BCE Student Voice Challenge, and we want YOU to be part of it!

This is your chance to share how your school is listening to students and creating change that matters. Whether it's a big idea or a simple initiative that makes a difference, we want to hear about it!

Why should you and your school participate in the Student Voice Challenge?

  • for your school community
  • by showcasing how schools are working with students to make a positive change!
  • in other schools across BCE
  • Celebrate at the Student Voice Showcase Day!

How to get involved in a challenge

Step 1: Choose a Project

Choose a project or initiative that’s already happening at your school. Pick something that's made a real impact on your school experience

Think about the following wishes for education that students from across BCE schools have told us they are passionate about:

  • Choice and Voice – How are students being heard?

  • Mental Health – What’s being done to support wellbeing?

  • Student Safety – How is your school keeping everyone safe?

  • Love of Learning – How are you making learning fun and meaningful?

  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – How is your school celebrating differences?

Looking for Inspiration?  Check out these examples of Student Voice initiatives to spark ideas and see what’s possible in your school community.

Step 2: Team Up

Work with a teacher or school leader - ideally someone involved in the project to create your video. You’ll collaborate to create a short video (using a school camera or iPad is perfect!). Remember when filming your video to make sure all students involved have media consent.

What to include in your video:

The Problem – What challenge did you identify? How was it discovered? Does your problem sit under any of the Wishes for Education other students across BCE have found?

The Solution – How did students and the school community come together to create change?

The Impact – How has this made a positive difference in your school?

Need a Different Way to Share Your Project? If creating a video isn’t possible, no worries! Reach out to the Student Voice Team at voice@bne.catholic.edu.au—we’d love to chat and help you explore alternative ways to showcase your work.

Step 3: Submit your Application

Heads up! Video submission: Students can't submit directly, but don't worry! Just ask a teacher or staff member to submit for you. They'll also need approval from your principal before it is set in. So, team up with your teacher and get your project ready to shine.

Applcations Close: 8th of August

Important Information to consider when planning your video for the Student Voice Challenge

Media:

Before filming, double-check with your teacher that everyone in your video has permission to appear on camera. This is important so your video can be shared on the Student Voice website and during the Student Voice Showcase event. For students who cannot appear on camera, there are plenty of other ways they can participate off camera, like scripts, editing, costumes etc.

Bonus Points: The following bonus challenges will win extra points:

  • Your Principal/Leadership Team dancing to The Nutbush
  • Adding visuals to make your video more engaging
  • Having a theme in your video
  • Someone in the video wearing a funny hat

What happens next?

Once all videos have been submitted, a panel made up of Student Voice Consultants and representatives from the BCEO will come together to review them.

  • How much they benefit students and staff
  • How well they align with the goals and values of Student Voice
  • student input, involvement, and leadership
  • And yes — a few bonus points for creativity and fun in the video!

You will hear if your video has been successful as the winner on: 22nd of August 2025

🏆

Student Voice Showcase Day 23rd October 2025

If your school is selected as one of the three winners, you’ll be invited to present your initiative or project at a special celebration at the Father Bernard O’Shea Centre

Here’s what to expect:

  • Present your video and share your story in a Q&A session
  • Celebrate with other students and teachers making a difference
  • about how Student Voice can grow in your school by taking part in our reflection activities
  • morning tea and awards presentation to recognise your amazing work!

Important note: If your school’s project or initiative isn't the winner – we still want to celebrate with you, because we know how great your work is – so we will invite you to come and hear the winners speak and share morning tea to celebrate the work happening in Student Voice across BCE community.
